In May, in a public lecture "Phytotherapy: Lithuania - China; Far and near; Intoxication - Detoxification - Digestion. What to know", we deepened our knowledge about the healing properties of plants. The lecture was given by Vitalijus Naumavičius, MS PhD.

At all times, in all cultures and peoples, plants have been known and used for both health preservation and healing.  In Lithuania and China this knowledge has been preserved. By understanding what separates us and what unites us, we can make more effective use of the plants growing in our country.

The speaker also debunked some of the existing phytotherapy myths. Such as whether there are magic plants, or whether only native, locally grown plants are suitable for use and treatment.

In this lecture we learnt about plants that can help with poisoning (ginger tea) and what can be used to cleanse the body. For example, the vegetable rhubarb (Rheum udalatum), forgotten by us all and newly discovered. It is cold in nature, bitter in taste, and has properties such as breaking up stagnation and accumulations, purifying fire, cooling the blood, antibacterial, and activating the bile and pancreas. Rhubarb is the most excellent natural preparation for cleansing the body.

In the following lecture we learnt about the traditional Chinese medicine approach to digestion and what plants we can use in Lithuania to regulate the digestive process. Studying this process goes hand in hand with understanding how the digestive system works. Adequate maintenance of digestive processes helps us to live longer and better lives.

We are pleased that the health lecture attracted a large number of interested participants, who, in a useful discussion at the end of the event, we believe, received answers to their questions.
