On the 20th April we will be celebrating the annual Chinese Language Day. Language Days at the United Nations seek to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity as well as to promote equal use of all six official languages throughout the Organization.

On this occasion, we invite you to listen to the public lecture about modern online Chinese language on an intriguing topic. The title of the lecture is "The Buzzwords on Chinese Social Channels" by a speaker from our partner university, Shanghai East China Normal University, assoc. prof. HE Xiaojia (何晓嘉副教授).

On 12 May, the second lecture “A Bird is not just a Bird. A Flower is not just a Flower. Symbolical Meanings behind the Images of Nature in Traditional Chinese Painting” of a series elaborates on “birds and flowers”, an important genre of classical Chinese painting. It was shaped and glorified by Buddhism and Taoism, folk beliefs and imperial patronage. We’ll dive into symbolical meanings of plants and animals and ways of representing them in Chinese art.

From 5th May we invite you to listen to three lectures from the series "Masterpieces of Chinese Art from the Collection of the National Bohdan and Varvara Khansenko Museum of Art (Khansenko Museum)" by Marta Logvyn, art historian, expert in Chinese art, researcher at the National Bohdan and Varvara Khansenko Museum of Art (Kyiv, Ukraine). Calligraphy occupies a special place in traditional Chinese culture and art, so it is not surprising that it is still an incomplete treasure trove of discoveries for scientists and researchers.

In March, 5th, doc. Loreta Poškaitė used to present the history of Chinese calligraphy at our institute before. But his time in the lecture we looked into the 20th century. The peculiarities of Chinese calligraphy, we tried to see the characteristics of different directions of modern calligraphy, we admired the masterpieces of avant-garde art.

On November, 19th Vilnius University Confucius Institute organized an online public lecture “The Road of Tea: From a Tea Tree to a Cup”, the speaker of the lecture Giedrius Šapoka, an expert in tea culture and a researcher. Listeners had the opportunity to hear where the oldest tea tree grows, what changes in the Chinese tea industry took place in 2005, got acquainted with the types of tea.
