On November, 25th The Vilnius University Confucius Institute organized a public online lecture "The Significance of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the Modern World". We are extremely grateful to Vitalijus Naumavičius, a Chinese medicine doctor, physiotherapist and doctor of biomedical sciences, for his valuable knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine and advice on how we should strengthen our health in winter.

The lecture discussed and compared two treatment systems - Western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine, where the researcher shared useful experience gained in China and his research knowledge. It was fun for us Lithuanians to see that more than half of the same medicinal plants grow in our country as in China. So far, unfortunately, we use a small part of the above-mentioned medicinal plants for treatment and prevention.

Traditional Chinese medicine is a unique system of treatment and health improvement practices that emerged in China thousands of years ago. This treatment is characterized by a holistic approach to the person as a whole. The main principle of this system is to strengthen the state of health before the onset of the disease, and food and herbs play a very important role here. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is believed that every food is beneficial just need to know how much and when to consume, because in the diet, according to the Chinese, it is necessary to maintain a balance.

After this lecture, we know that what is "traditional" is not necessarily "old", "outdated" or even "unusable". Today, Traditional Chinese Medicine is at the same time a system that has mastered the latest technologies and has also preserved many years of experience. And this is especially significant for a modern man and the world. After all, our own organisms are largely able to defend themselves against disease. Well, we can start strengthening our body with herbs and help ourselves now. We have several hundred Lithuanian herbs that we can use for treatment, as used by the Chinese. Just how to use them is already another topic of the lecture that we will discuss in our next meetings.
