Due to global situation that is affecting many countries in the world, the annual “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition, organized by Confucius Institute Headquarters, was held online.
The "Chinese Bridge" is aimed at arousing the enthusiasm of students in various countries to learn Chinese and strengthen the world's understanding of the Chinese language as well as culture. The contest for foreign college students was divided into four parts: knowledge quiz about China, speech on the theme "One world, One family", artistic performances and two-minute videos. We are pleased to inform that this year in “Chinese Bridge” competition for Foreign College Students and Upper Secondary Schools Students Lithuania was represented by Akvilė Radauskaitė, a final year undergraduate student in sinology at Vilnius University, who has been studying in China for a couple years, and a high school student from Klaipėdos Ąžuolyno gymanasium, a partner of Vilnius University Confucius Institute.
We are glad to share a video created by Akvilė Radauskaitė in her hometown Marijampolė. In this video Akvilė briefly introduces herself, tells us the reasons for choosing to study Chinese and conveys the idea of “One world, One family” - in this global situation we need to help each other for the common good of all people. Viewers will be able to vote for their favourite participant until the end of October. You can vote for Akvilė via “Chinese Bridge” mobile application.

Simona Erminaitė, who represented Lithuania between high school students, painted a drawing based on traditional Chinese painting. When asked about Chinese language and participation in competition she said: “I have always been interested in East Asian cultures and really enjoyed the way that region languages sound. I was also moved to study Chinese by stories from students already learning Chinese language. They told me about the opportunities of studying this language and the good atmospehere in the classroom. Participation in competition gave me a wonderful opportunity to test and improve my Chinese language skills. Despite that competition was held online, it still provided new learning experiences. Although it was a little bit scary to compete with other students at international level, it turned out to be a great chance to overcome my fears. I was happy to see friendliness and support from other participants."

We thank Akvilė and Simona for participation in annual “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition and wish them best of luck in continuing to learn Chinese!
Participating in "Chinese Bridge" competition is an unforgettable and rewarding experience, thus we encourage sinology students and others learning Chinese to test their skills and knowledge in regional selection for ”Chinese Bridge" competition in spring 2021.
