On the 20th April we will be celebrating the annual Chinese Language Day. Language Days at the United Nations seek to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity as well as to promote equal use of all six official languages throughout the Organization.
On this occasion, we invite you to listen to the public lecture about modern online Chinese language on an intriguing topic. The title of the lecture is "The Buzzwords on Chinese Social Channels" by a speaker from our partner university, Shanghai East China Normal University, assoc. prof. HE Xiaojia (何晓嘉副教授).
During the process of learning Chinese as a foreign language, you may find Chinese evolving with lots of "internet language". You may wonder about what are the sources of these expressions and how Chinese speakers use language online. This lecture will start with some linguistic and paralinguistic features of Chinese internet buzzwords, and then put these buzzwords into different categories, focusing on some expressions related with food and animals.
Hopefully the lecture will provide you with an interesting guide to some of the most common internet buzzwords found in China, so that next time you may sound more like a native Chinese speaker!
We kindly invite you to join an online lecture that will be held in English.
